How to service the thermostat on 2006 Scion xA?

To maintain the thermostat, drain the engine coolant, remove the water inlet and remove the thermostat. Install a new gasket with the jiggle valve facing up and then reinstall the water inlet and tighten the nuts with 9.0 Nm. Last but not least, put in coolant and make sure there are no leakages.
