2007 Scion tC Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to reassemble the brake master cylinder on 2007 Scion tC?
A: The first step to master cylinder brake assembly requires you to check the inside for scratches before implementing a replacement when needed. A properly secured master cylinder in a vise with aluminum plates will protect it from damage. Put lithium soap base glycol grease on rubber components before inserting the No. 1 and No. 2 pistons straight into the master cylinder body to maintain its internal structure and cylinder cup lip from harm. Push the piston into place before installing the new gasket combined with the piston stopper bolt while torquing it to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.). Snap ring pliers should be used with the piston kept inside to install the hole snap ring without causing damage to the cylinder body. The new O-ring needs lithium soap base glycol grease prior to its installation on the master cylinder body. First apply lithium soap base glycol grease followed by silicon grease to two grommets before installing them onto the master cylinder body. Then install the master cylinder union with its stopper screw. The brake booster pushrod check involves using Special Service Tool: 09737-00013 to place it on the master cylinder until its rod makes gentle contact with the piston. Set the flat tip of the special tool with brake booster push rod chalk then flip the tool upside down to check that the clearance between the rod and the tool amounts to 0 mm (0 inch). The push rod position is incorrect when you notice clearance between the tool and master cylinder. On the other hand, no chalk sticking indicates the push rod does not extend enough. Use 7 mm socket driver to adjust the rod length by holding it with Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 before repeating the push rod clearance measurement following adjustment.
