- Q: How to remove and install the front Seat Belt assembly on the RH side on 2007 Toyota Matrix?A: A proper removal of the front seat outer belt assembly on the RH side begins with disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable while waiting for 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag activation. The technician should begin by taking out the front door scuff plate RH along with front door Weather Strip RH, rear door scuff plate RH, rear door Weather Strip RH and center pillar garnish lower RH. The RH front seat outer belt assembly removal requires proper execution of these instructions: first apply tape to a screwdriver tip and use it to remove the shoulder anchor cover before unbolting and detaching the front seat outer belt assembly at its shoulder anchor connection point. You must use a screwdriver with taped tip to remove the floor anchor cover then the bolt will become loose as you disconnect the front seat outer belt assembly RH at the floor anchor side. Pull the lock horizontally from the connector and you can remove it for pretensioner disconnection. The last steps involve removing bolts securing the front seat outer belt assembly RH after which center pillar garnish RH followed by front shoulder anchor adjuster assembly needs to be taken away. The installation process starts with the front shoulder anchor adjuster assembly followed by the center pillar garnish RH and then the front seat outer belt assembly RH but always keep the retractor intact. Test the ELR by gently moving it from side to side before installation to verify proper operation including a 15 degrees non-locking window and 45 degrees locking window regime; replace the front seat outer belt assembly if the functionality is not as expected. Use two bolts to install the retractor and torques the upper bolt to 4.9 N.m (50 kgf.cm, 43 in.lbf) and the lower bolt to 41.2 N.m (420 kgf.cm, 30 ft.lbf). Installation begins with attaching the shoulder anchor along with its bolt and reaching its torque specification at 41.2 N.m (420 kgf.cm, 30 ft.lbf). The sequence continues with shoulder anchor cover application followed by floor anchor with bolt attachment (torque: 41.2 N.m (420 kgf.cm, 30 ft.lbf)) and finally the floor anchor cover. After installing the ELR check it operates correctly by quickly pulling the belt to ensure a lock occurs; a replacement of the front seat outer belt assembly is required if this functionality fails. The repair process ends with the center pillar garnish lower RH, rear door Weather Strip RH and rear door scuff plate RH installation followed by front door Weather Strip RH and front door scuff plate RH installation while reconnecting the battery negative terminal and checking the SRS warning light.
